New Delhi: As many as 27.57 lakh people were caught traveling without a train across the country in the last financial year; They were fined Rs 143 crore, the railways said.
Chandrasekhar Kaur from Madhya Pradesh, in response to a question raised by the Right to Information Act (RTI), said:
In the last financial year from April 2020 to March 2021, 27.57 lakh people were caught traveling on trains across the country without proper tickets. They were fined Rs 143.82 crore. In the last financial year from April 2019 to March 2020, 1.10 crore people were caught without tickets. A fine of Rs 561.73 crore was levied on them. Thus stated in it.
“The reduction in the number of trains due to the Govt environment has led to a 25 per cent drop in the number of people caught without tickets in the last financial year,” railway officials said.
