Dubai: Six-time world champion MC Mary Kom (51kg) wins silver at Asia Boxing Championships

This was Mary Pauly’s seventh medal in the tournament, her first medal in the 2003 edition.
Against an opponent who was 11 years younger than her, 38-year-old Mary won the first round effortlessly with a good start. But then the opposing hand was over. Mary Kom fought back in the final three minutes but failed to get the jury’s approval.
Amit Pangal (52kg), Shiva Thapa (64kg) and Sanjeet (91kg) will battle it out in the men’s final on Monday.
The other eight Indians – three of the Olympic qualifiers Simranjit Kaur (60 kg), Vikas Krishan (69 kg), and Lovlina Borghoine (69 kg), and Jaismine (57kg), Sakshi Chaudhary (64kg), Monica (48kg), Soweti (81kg) and Varinder Singh (60kg) – won bronze medals after losing the semifinals.
