Geneva: UN The UN Security Council has re-nominated Antonio Guterres for the post of Secretary-General.
Antonio Guterres, the 9th Secretary-General of the United Nations, has been in office since January 1, 2017 for 5 years. His term ends on December 31. The appointment of the Secretary-General of the United Nations is made by the UN General Assembly on the recommendation of the Security Council.
In this context, the meeting of the 15-member UN Security Council was held yesterday (June 8). In it, the resolution to nominate Guterres, currently UN Secretary-General, for the post of UN Secretary-General was passed unanimously. The resolution is next to be submitted to the UN General Assembly.
