New York: India has been elected a member of the UN Economic and Social Council.
The Economic and Social Council is considered one of the six major divisions of the United Nations. Of these, 54 countries are elected as members for three years on the basis of geographical representation. Africa is represented by 14, Asia by 11, Eastern Europe by 6, Latin America by 10 and Western Europe by 13.
In this, India has been selected as a member of the UN Economic and Social Council for three years from 2022 – 24. This Council serves as a central platform for developing discussions on various platforms, developing innovative thinking and coordinating efforts to achieve internationally agreed goals.
