Chandigarh: Sunil Jakhar, chief of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, convened a meeting of party legislators and district unit presidents on Monday in the wake of the restructuring of the Punjab State Congress unit.
All the legislators and the district president will accept any decision of the party’s High Command regarding Punjab to be acceptable to the entire state unit at its meeting tomorrow. “It will be forwarded to Congress President Sonia Gandhi,” Jakhar said in a statement on Sunday.
Jakhar appeals that any decision that the High Command wants to take on the Punjab should be taken swiftly so that the party can address the major issues of the people of the state. The meeting will be held tomorrow afternoon at the Punjab Congress House.
Jakhar made the statement amid suspicions that Navjot Singh Sidhu has been appointed as the party’s president and two vice-presidents have been appointed by the High Command to ease internal disagreement with the Punjab unit.
