New Delhi: Covshield vaccine maker Serum has reportedly applied to the Pharmaceutical Standards Authority of India (DCGI) for permission to manufacture the Sputnik V vaccine in Russia.
The Pune-based serum company has been developing the Kovshield vaccine against Govt. The company had told the federal government that it could produce 100 million doses of the vaccine from June. The company manufactures the Novax vaccine. The company is awaiting US approval.
According to TCGI sources, the serum company has applied for permission to manufacture the Spotnik V vaccine, a covid vaccine invented by Russia, in India. Is applying for permission to test and inspect the drug. Thus those companies are informed.
With the approval of the DCGI, Sputnik V will conduct a clinical trial in India. If successful, Serum will be the 7th company to manufacture the drug in India.
Russia has entered into agreements with Dr. Reddy Laboratories, Gland Pharma, Hetero Bio Pharma, Panicia Biotech, Steelis Biopharma and Versav Biotech to manufacture the Sputnik V vaccine in India. Dr. Reddy Laboratories has contracted to manufacture 125 million doses of the drug in India. The price of a single dose is fixed at Rs.995 in India. It is reported that the price will go down further once it is produced here.
